Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is known for its immune-boosting benefits. But kidney stone formers, beware: not all sources of Vitamin C are created equal.

While most of us receive sufficient Vitamin C from our daily food and drink intake, some people prefer reaching for Vitamin C supplements. That’s where things get risky! Supplemental vitamin C (aka Vitamin C not from natural sources) has been identified as a risk factor for kidney stone development. This is because, in excess, Vitamin C can increase urinary oxalate excretion.
